Services

Swift Speech has a focus on providing services for stutterers / people who stutter, cluttering, voice, or speech sound disorders. We screen for language difficulties due to potential interaction with stuttering and treat language difficulties associated with cluttering. However, we do not currently see clients presenting with delayed language development (late talkers), complex language delays and disorders, or swallowing difficulties. Clients seeking those services are recommended to see a speech pathologist with a focus in those areas. Services are provided face‐to‐face in our rooms in Adelaide or via telehealth. See our fees. Initial consultation

The first meeting for us to find out more about you, set goals together and determine if we will make a good team to meet your goals. The initial consultation involves collecting a background history and some informal assessment of stuttering, cluttering and voice, as well as speech sounds and language abilities as these can interact with stuttering. Two sessions are usually required to complete assessment, determine goals and agree on a treatment plan. The second session will be booked as a Second Consultation. If the client is younger than 10 years old, parents are welcome to attend this session without their child. Some parents find it easier to do this first session via telehealth because this allows the child to play at home when they are not required for the background history gathering part of the session. For children and teenagers between 10-16 years old, it is requested that both the parent and child attend. Clients 17 years and above may attend alone or bring support people with them as they prefer.

Second consultation

This session involves conducting some more assessments to get a complete understanding of your speech, voice or stuttering and how it is affecting you cognitively and socially. We will go through the results from assessments completed during the initial consultation and formalise therapy goals if appropriate. This second consultation is charged at the Review consultation rate on the fee schedule.

Formal assessment

The Assessment charge is for a formal language assessment or a full assessment battery for speech sound disorders. It is charged when the assessments will require additional time to score and report above our standard session admin time. It includes 1 hour of testing time, test materials, 1 hour of analysis and a standard report. The full assessment might take more than one session to complete but you will only be charged one assessment charge at a given time. Following sessions to complete the assessment will be charged at the treatment session rate.

Therapy session

These sessions involve training you as the client or parent to conduct home practice exercises at home to make changes to your speech. Speech pathology treatments require practice in between the clinic sessions in order to be effective. Therapy sessions are usually scheduled weekly or fortnightly.

Maintenance sessions

Once you have finished therapy, it may be recommended that you attend short maintenance sessions to monitor your continued progress and problem-solve issues that may arise. These sessions are particularly important for clients undertaking stuttering therapies.

Review consultations

After a break from therapy, you may wish to get a few tips to continue your progress or discuss whether or not another therapy cycle is warranted. A review consultation is an opportunity for us to discuss your current goals and concerns, provide some strategies to help you to move forward and determine if further therapy is required.
